Marketing your books is a tough job.
​As I have said before the easy part is writing the book. It doesn't matter if it's for children or adults, the hard part in the marketing. 

Now that we are half way through the Pumpkin Festival and I've talked with the authors, maybe it's not for us. Sales have not been what I had hoped for.

I'd like to offer some advice to you all. You need to look at your marketing material. What are you handing out to potential customers that will draw them in to your booth and buy your book? Do you have something they can take away and maybe order from later? Business cards a good but don't sell books.

My sales vary just like your's do and I don't always achieve my goal at events. That said on average I do pretty well.
I have a brochure with all my books listed, my bio and awards and accomplishments. I also have post cards with my adult book covers on the front and a synopsis and where to find them on the back with a QR code that will take them directly to the books Amazon site. After an event I will sell a couple books and eBooks from this material.

As far a social media goes. I don't get very many sales but my author platform is growing. I use Facebook, Twitter and linked in mostly. I have two websites and I blog once a week on my Publishing site, www.heritagepublishingus.com.

I learned a couple things last week. On linked in you can write an article. It's listed at the top as an option. You can put in photos, videos and links to other pages or sites.
When you create a link to your book use the Create Space ID number for your book
www.createspace.com/4850631, is the link to my children's book, Just Batty. You will find this number in your create space dashboard. Each book has a different number. It pulls up a portion of your books cover and a description. When some one clicks on it they go directly to where they can purchase your book. Using the Create Space link gets you a bigger royalty when they purchase from there as opposed to Amazon. You can also connect the article to your Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Another things to think about is the subject matter of your book. Is it something that will appeal to the masses or is it a pet interest of yours. If it's too specific you are limiting your audience to only people interested in that particular subject. It might be a terrific and timely subject but how many will want to read it? How are you going to Market it? Where are you going to sell it? You have to think beyond the written word.
